I tear through business books. I love what I hear. And honestly, that is where it breaks down, because across that many books read over years, the philosophies blur. I could not tell you which book said the thing I needed at 9pm on a Tuesday, mid decision.
And plenty of people are the other way. They do not love reading these books like I do. They just want to apply the learnings.
So I built the thing that does both: I distilled the frameworks, decision trees, benchmarks, and scripts from 100 of the greatest business books into one Claude skill. It takes all of it from thinking about the ideas to actually using them in your day to day. Bring it a problem and it answers like a coach who has read everything: it names the pattern you are stuck in, cites the book that diagnosed it, and gives you the exact words to say.
The Business Coach skill
1. What it actually does
It diagnoses before it prescribes. Bring it a problem and it asks 3 to 5 sharp questions first, the way a real strategist would. Then it answers with a structure that took me months to tune: the short answer up front, one to three best moves with the book cited for each, and one clear recommendation for your situation.
The difference from asking plain Claude is specificity. Generic AI says "you should delegate more." The coach says: you are in the Technician's Trap from The E-Myth, doing $15-an-hour work while $500-an-hour decisions go unmade, here is the buyback rate math from Buy Back Your Time, and here is what to hand off first.
2. Install it, the exact walkthrough
Two minutes, no technical anything. The main door is Claude Cowork, in the desktop app. That is what most people are going to use, so here is that workflow, every click numbered.
1. Download the zip. Hit the download button above. It lands in your Downloads folder as claude-business-coach.zip. Leave it exactly as it is. Do not unzip it, Claude wants the zip whole.
2. Open the skills drawer. Open the Claude desktop app, the same app Cowork lives in. Click your initials in the bottom corner, then Settings, then Capabilities, then Skills.
3. Upload it. Click Upload skill, pick claude-business-coach.zip from Downloads, and it appears in your list, switched on.
4. Open Cowork and bring it a problem. Start a Cowork session and describe any business problem in plain words. You do not have to summon the skill. It wakes up on its own when the topic is business, and you will see the coach's structure: questions first, then the diagnosis with the book cited.
If you use Claude Code instead: double-click the zip to unzip it, then drop the business-coach folder into ~/.claude/skills/. Same skill, same coach. And if you are not sure which one you use, you use Cowork. Claude Code people know who they are.
No skills access on your plan? Make a Project, upload the files from the references folder, and paste SKILL.md into the Project instructions. Every chat in that Project becomes a coaching session.
3. The first conversation to have with it
It will place you on the stage map (idea, early, growth, scaling, exit), tell you which advice is premature for your stage, and give you a this-week, day-30, day-90 plan. Stage matters more than people think: the right move at $2M is often the wrong move at $200K.
4. The three ways I actually use it
The gut check. Before any big decision I ask: "Argue against this. What would each of the 100 books say could go wrong?" It is the cheapest board of advisors that has ever existed.
The hard conversation. When I am dreading a talk with an employee, a client, or a partner, I describe the situation and ask for the exact words. Scripts beat intentions.
The Monday reset. Once a month I give it my numbers and let it be honest with me. It benchmarks against the actual thresholds in the books: margins by industry, LTV to CAC, revenue concentration risk, the keeper test for the team.
5. Make it yours
The skill gets sharper the more context it holds. Tell it your industry, your numbers, your team size once, and ask it to remember. And when it names a book you keep leaning on, buy that book. The skill is the map; the books are the territory. My most-cited three so far: Buy Back Your Time, Unreasonable Hospitality, and Start With Why.
- Download the zip, install through Settings, Claude Code, or a Project.
- First prompt: five sentences about your business, ask for stage and the one thing to fix.
- Use it for decisions, hard conversations, and monthly number checks.
- Every answer cites its book, so your reading list builds itself.
It is not magic. It is 100 books that finally show up at the moment I need them.
The Business Coach skill
Once the coach is running, give it a business to run: the life dashboard build is how I wired Claude into the day-to-day it now advises on.
